What colour is your website?

wheel-3-rgbIt might sound like an odd or trivial question but the colours chosen for your website are as important as the content, design of graphics and layout. Are your colours right?

The colours used on your home page are the first conscious and subconscious elements the brain retains and are one of the key, lasting memories viewers preserve after visiting your website. We all know first impressions count and colour is a major impact that forms an impression within seconds. Just think about Orange!

Does colour choice really matter?

Don’t get fixated on the science or psychology of colour, it is simpler than that, colour is an essential branding tool!  A good colour scheme will provide visual stimulation for interest but not be completely distracting. People can be shown a certain shade of purple and instantly think of Cadbury, that is colour alone, no text. That is powerful branding! Choosing colours for your web design is not just about choosing your favourite colour.

Certain colours are accepted in society without a second thought, Red – STOP, Green- GO.

Contrast of colour is very useful in leading the eye by separating sections on a page and reducing eye strain at the same time. Colour can draw the eye to the most important message in the content.

Yes, Colour matters.

The human mind interprets colour for us, it invokes emotion, thought, sparks ideas, creates awareness and defines areas of interest. The association of colour does affect the mood of the viewer and should therefore suit your website, the services and products promoted.

Bright colours are linked to a positive and cheerful frame of mind and dark colours create the opposite mood. Cool colours symbolize calm, peace and harmony.  Colour will get your business noticed AND remembered, with the right colour combinations your business will be remembered in a positive light. Having directed traffic to your website, you need to keep them there! If a web page is unappealing to viewers, they are not going to stay and investigate and that is a real shame, a lost opportunity.
