That is a question we get asked frequently by Small and Medium sized enterprises and the answer is yes, if the right people see your site. You will have to make sure your shiny new website is actually being seen by your prospective clients before you will start to hear the sound of the cash registers ringing.

The way to do that is by using what is called Search Engine Optimization or SEO and Social Media.

You need to decide who your main competitors are, the area that you would like your business to cover and the key features of your business. With these pieces of information your website will be fine tuned to ensure Google or other search engines such as Bing and Yahoo receive a search relating to your business within your geographical area it’s your company that is top of the search list. Relevant back links will also be obtained (a back-link is where somebody links to your site).

You will also need Social Media to let your target ordinance know that you exist, which social media platforms you use will depend on your target market, they all have different features and benefits. A good SEO/Social Media company will match your needs accordingly.

You will also require strong Meta description’s to encourage people to click on your site as opposed to any others “Quality DJ who Plays music that makes people dance”

Meta description

It does not stop there, as the search engines keep an eye on whether your site is interesting to people when they do click on it. If they just click straight back off and do not look around your site, specifically other pages, even if you have managed to get to the first page, you will be knocked back again as your site will be deemed not to have relevant content to the search subject. The content needs not only to be relevant, but also current. One of the best ways of doing this is writing a blog on a regular basis on topics that are related to your core business. Not just a sales pitch, but something that people can learn from or in Google’s language have a good user experience from.

Just to make life even harder the algorithm that the search engines use to rank its searches constantly changes (Google apparently changes the algorithm unto 300 times a year) so it’s a moving target as well, so somebody will need to keep an eye on how you site is performing.

Google Analytics

This is done using programs like Google’s Analytics, Webmaster Tools and Bing’s version of Webmaster Tools,
So you can see that getting a website is just the start if you want it to do anything other than be a showcase your company, you will need SEO and Social media.
